This is a good starting point if you are considering buying a place in France - or even if you have already taken the plunge. It is near bang up to date (this edition published July 1999), and excellent value at less than a tenner. The practical information will help you make the right decisions up front and get organised after the purchase has been made. All in all a good way to get to know many of the quirks of the French system fast.  

If you are thinking of packing up and moving over the water for more than a couple of months you really should read this book. It won't put you off - but it will arm you with all the information you need to make sure you know what you are doing.  This book review column is beginning to look like the David Hampshire fan club... but if you want facts and figures without the padding, his books are easily the best (in my humble opinion!)

Not a text book - more of a review of France and French Living. If you want to live in a French way rather than take your little bit of America over the ocean, then this book is for you. You will gain a valuable appreciation of the regions - their specialities and peculiarities. Dealing not only with property issues but also entertaining and interior design.   This book will help ensure that you don't stick out like a sore thumb!
